QUITO METROPOLITAN CORRIDOR COMPETITION (CMQ)
re-inspire Quito 1rst and 2nd phases
re-inspire Quito 1rst and 2nd phases
The first phase contains 10 proposed centralities, 44km designed for pedestrians, 94 intervention projects, 1 urban Geopark to revitalize nature, 25 cultural landmarks in the corridor, 55 tools and technologies to be implemented, 15 types of urban furniture proposed for integrating public spaces, 7,617 hectares of urban opportunity spaces identified to rethink the city, 1 regulation grounded in the particularities of the territory, 19 rehabilitated and activated streams, 27 strategic facilities.
The proposal objectives are the recovery of public space, the projection of the corridor as an idea of integration, and the repopulation of Quito’s central area, all of which are linked to urban and resilient sustainability. The specific case of Quitumbe was developed, where the ravines configure the city’s structure.
The second phase contains the preliminary project stage. The proposal restructures mobility, integrates the environment into the city, and redirects urban growth.
“El Recreo” Partial Plan: Public meeting spaces are structured with the Southern Parish Articulator project, connecting the linear railway park and the Metropolitan Corridor through public space and flexible housing.
“Quitumbe” Partial Plan: This area is planned with collective development in mind, along with the South Cooperative and Corporate Park project. That consolidates the different actors of the popular economy, commercial facilities, spaces for shared work, collective housing, and public space spatially.
