GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN FOR ESMERALDAS (PIV):
Esmeraldas, a city on the north coast of Ecuador, suffers particularly from landslides and flooding and is one of the three pilot cities for the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) regional project “Reducing climate vulnerability and flood risk in urban and semi-urban coastal areas in Latin American cities.”
The project seeks to increase urban resilience against flooding risks, avalanches, and landslides. The objective translates to the definition of priority actions in urban planning and the implementation of resilience infrastructures, the strengthening of local capacities to reduce vulnerability, and the development of communities of practices that can ensure the replication of experiences.
